  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves (divided)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients by chopping garlic and onion.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent, about 3 minutes; add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Pour in canned tomatoes with their juices. Stir in sugar, salt, pepper, oregano, and half the basil. Simmer for 15 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Meanwhile, boil salted water in another pot and cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
  5. Combine drained pasta with the sauce in the skillet and toss well to coat all strands.
  6. Serve topped with grated Parmesan and remaining basil.
