Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Cooking oil spray
  • Dipping sauce of your choice (ranch or spicy mayo recommended)

Instructions

  1. Peel the onion and cut off the top while keeping the root intact.
  2. Soak the onion in ice water for 30 minutes to enhance crispiness.
  3. In three bowls, prepare your dredging station: mix flour and spices in one, beat eggs in another, and place panko breadcrumbs mixed with additional spices in the last.
  4. Coat each petal of the onion by dipping it first into flour, then into beaten eggs, and finally rolling it in panko breadcrumbs until fully covered.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the coated onion with cooking oil before placing it in the basket.
  6. Cook for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
