Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large Vidalia onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Peel the outer skin from the onion and trim about half an inch off the top, leaving the root intact.
  2. Place the onion cut-side down on a cutting board and slice it into 12-16 sections without cutting through to the root.
  3. In one bowl, combine flour with paprika and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk eggs until frothy. Place panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  4. Coat each petal by dipping first in flour, then in egg mixture, and finally rolling in panko until fully covered.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Lightly spray the coated onion with cooking spray and place it in the air fryer basket.
  7. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
