Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium Russet potatoes (about 2 lbs), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash, peel, and slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch thick rounds.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute). Pour in the heavy cream while stirring gently until heated.
  4. Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer half of the potato slices on the bottom, drizzle with half of the creamy mixture, and sprinkle with one cup of cheddar cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil (shiny side down) and bake for 45 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  6. Remove foil, add remaining cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
