Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 23 tart apples (like Granny Smith), peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for icing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. While dough rises, prepare the filling by tossing apples with sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. Once risen, roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over it and sprinkle apple-cinnamon mixture evenly.
  7. Roll up tightly from one long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking pan cut-side up. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk to desired consistency and drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
