Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together room temperature butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder together. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick and cut out heart shapes using cookie cutters.
  6. Place cookies on prepared sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Let cool before decorating with royal icing or glaze.
