Easy to make with just a few ingredients, apple butter is perfect for sharing with friends or enjoying all season long.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups mixed apples (e.g., 2 cups Fuji and 2 cups Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
  2. Cook Down the Apples: In a large pot over medium heat, combine apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Add Some Liquid: Pour in water to create steam and help soften the apples. Cover the pot.
  4. Blend Until Smooth: After about 20-30 minutes of cooking, use an immersion blender to puree until smooth.
  5. Cook Down Further: Continue cooking uncovered on low heat for about an hour until thickened to your liking.
  6. Jar It Up: Ladle hot apple butter into sterilized jars and seal tightly once cooled.
