  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet) (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly; then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition along with the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until no flour streaks remain.
  5. If using, gently fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs attached. Allow cooling before cutting into squares.
