Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 ripe pears (about 1.5 lbs), peeled and cored
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust for sweetness)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (freshly grated if possible)
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare your pears by peeling, coring, and cutting them into chunks.
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, combine pear chunks, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir until well mixed and cook until the pears are tender (about 20 minutes).
  3. Blend the mixture using an immersion blender or transfer to a blender until smooth.
  4. Return the blended mixture to low heat and simmer uncovered for another 30-40 minutes until thickened.
  5. Transfer hot pear butter into sterilized jars and seal tightly. Allow to cool before refrigerating.
