Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (80/20)
  • 8 oz penne pasta
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare pasta: In a large pot, boil salted water and cook penne according to package instructions until al dente (about 8-10 minutes).
  2. Sauté aromatics: In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté chopped onion until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook until golden.
  3. Cook ground beef: Increase heat to medium-high, add ground beef, and cook until browned (6-8 minutes), breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Add sauce ingredients: Stir in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Allow to simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Combine: Drain cooked pasta (reserve some water), mix it into the skillet with the beef mix, adding reserved pasta water if needed for consistency.
  6. Finish with cheese: Remove from heat and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
