Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ripe tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the quartered tomatoes and minced garlic; stir well. Simmer for about 20 minutes until tomatoes break down into a chunky sauce.

  5. Stir in chopped basil just before serving and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
