  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add maple syrup, applesauce, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined; lumps are okay.
  4. If desired, fold in chopped nuts for added crunch.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean with some crumbs attached.
