This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or game nights with friends. The rich flavors and satisfying crunch will transport you back to your favorite diner, making every bite a nostalgic delight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 80% lean ground beef
  • 4 slices sourdough bread (thick)
  • 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
  • 1 large sweet onion (sliced)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, shape ground beef into four patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. In another skillet over medium-high heat, add remaining butter and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until desired doneness. Top each patty with cheese just before finishing.
  4. Butter one side of each slice of bread. In a clean skillet, place one slice butter-side down, add a patty topped with onions, and finish with another slice of bread butter-side up. Cook until golden brown on both sides.
